A Storied Brewster Landmark Begins a New Chapter, and Gillian Richmond is helping to write it.
There’s a certain feeling you get the moment you arrive at The Charm on Main.
It’s quiet. Unhurried. Warm in a way that feels less like check-in—and more like coming home.
That feeling? It starts with Gillian.
Gillian Richmond, Innkeeper at The Charm, has hospitality in her bones. Long before Cape Cod, before boutique inns and beachside sunsets, her story began in Scotland—at a school her mother and grandmother once attended, then known as the West of Scotland College of Domestic Science.
What began as a love of cooking evolved into something deeper: a calling toward hospitality. Gillian went on to study earning top honors in her field – including receiving the prestigious Scottish Epicurean Scoiety Award – and launching a career that would take her from five-star hotels to some of Cape Cod’s most iconic resorts.
But ask her about it, and she won’t lead with accolades.
She’ll talk about people.
“I’ve always believed it’s the small things,” she says. “The handwritten note. Remembering how someone takes their coffee. That’s what stays with guests.”
It’s a philosophy she’s carried throughout her career—from her early days at the Glasgow Hilton to more than a decade shaping guest experiences at the Cape’s beloved Wequassett, where she learned the art of anticipating needs before they’re spoken. Over the years, she’s created “magic moments”—from organizing seaplane rides to orchestrating deeply personal celebrations for guests marking life’s biggest milestones.
At The Charm, those moments feel quieter—but no less meaningful.
Each morning, Gillian is there to greet guests at breakfast, asking about their plans, offering thoughtful recommendations, and gently guiding the rhythm of their stay. By evening, she’s often the one welcoming them back—ready to hear about their day and ensure everything feels just right.
It’s intentional. Personal. Entirely sincere.
“I want guests to feel like this is their home away from home,” she says. “Somewhere they can truly relax.”
That sense of ease is woven into every corner of The Charm.
A cup of coffee on a sun-drenched porch. A late-night visit to the library for a nostalgic snack (Gillian says she wants guests to feel like they’re sneaking out of bed for something worth sneaking; a chocolate chip cookie, a salty snack). A quiet afternoon by the pool under the pines. Even the property’s history—once a schoolhouse—lends itself to a feeling of comfort and familiarity, like stepping into a story that’s still being written.
And Gillian is at the center of it all—connecting guests not just to the property, but to the Cape itself.
She’ll point you toward a sunset over Cape Cod Bay (“the kind that stops you in your tracks”), suggest a windswept walk along Nauset Beach in the off-season, or send you to a tucked-away local favorite where the bartender might just greet you by name.
Because for Gillian, hospitality isn’t about perfection. It’s about care.
Deep, genuine care—for the people who walk through the door, for the experience they have, and for the feeling they take with them when they leave.
And if she’s done her job right?
They’ll be back.
